'Take, say, sports -- that's another crucial example of the indoctrination system, in my view. For one thing because it -- you know, it offers people something to pay attention to that's of no importance. [audience laughs] That keeps them from worrying about -- [applause] keeps them from worrying about things that matter to their lives that they might have some idea of doing something about. And in fact it's striking to see the intelligence that's used by ordinary people in [discussions of] sports [as opposed to political and social issues]. I mean, you listen to radio stations where people call in -- they have the most exotic information [more laughter] and understanding about all kind of arcane issues. And the press undoubtedly does a lot with this.

You know, I remember in high school, already I was pretty old. I suddenly asked myself at one point, why do I care if my high school team wins the football game? [laughter] I mean, I don't know anybody on the team, you know? [audience roars] I mean, they have nothing to do with me, I mean, why I am cheering for my team? It doesn't mean any -- it doesn't make sense. But the point is, it does make sense: it's a way of building up irrational attitudes of submission to authority, and group cohesion behind leadership elements -- in fact, it's training in irrational jingoism. That's also a feature of competitive sports. I think if you look closely at these things, I think, typically, they do have functions, and that's why energy is devoted to supporting them and creating a basis for them and advertisers are willing to pay for them and so on.'

so we have a new song. it came out yesterday with a radical mixtape for crash symbols.

the song is called mind has changed. it is basically what you would imagine someone would listen to while they were on a lovestruck and forlorn mission to explode a star destroying laser. there are choirs that sounds like they are programmed by German technicians. there are italo synths. there are slick guitars. there is even an affected warble. jump in, but remember, there is a James & Evander remix of this song coming in the next few weeks, as well as a 12" SPORTS mix. also accompanying the song will be our very own remix of James & Evander's 'Turtle 2.' Get psyched. Cosmic Melodrama.

First - Sports is playing our first show at Chop Suey on Capitol Hill on Dec. 5. This show is amazing already. You can pick up tickets here.

Strength is an amazing and legitimate disco band from Portland. They are being radical enough to come up and play the show. That is super radical, ladies and gentleman, super R-A-D-I-C-A-L. Perhaps even tubular, if I may be so bold. Come out and buy their new album, Mind Reader... If you don't have it already. I own it and listen to it all the time and it is incredible.

The Fascination Movement will also be playing and they are pretty much the coolest thing going on right now. They are also working on an album right now and that will be done soon, I hope. Look forward to even more awesome things from this band.

So yesterday, Sports was played on the great WZBC in Boston. I am pretty impressed by the fact that this happened, as Sports has not submitted tracks to the radio at large, but let the good times roll. Technology does some amazing things.

Also, a great blog run out of Berlin/Oslo called 'Fear Of Pop,' posted 'Heatwave' and 'To Catch a Thief' Yesterday... or today I guess, since.. you know... timezones and all.

We are putting the finishing touches on "Every World is a World of Your Own," and trying to get heard. If you know of any good blogs or people or radio stations or mp3 players or computers that need some Sports let us know. We will be happy to serve it up.

We recorded the vocals to our album demo this weekend and it ruled. It will take some time to mix, but in the meantime make sure to check out our next couple shows!

First we are playing the Nectar in a few weeks on September 14th with The Icarus Kid and some other cool cats. Check out facebook for more info.

Then we are super amped to be playing with two radical groups from Oakland on October 1st at one of our favorite places, The Ballard Mine. James and Evander is some straight up super radical instrumental analog electronic music. And Elephant and Castle are some super trippy hip hop producers. Both bands are super radical. This show is going to blow people away.

So.. we are playing a free show during Capitol Hill Block Party. It is not part of the actual Block party per se, but it is in front of Po Dogs and it is totally free. Sunday is supposed to be gorgeous, so pack up your canned wine and come see us play a radical free show.

We are playing at about 3:30. As I mentioned before, we recently added a new member to our band, Mr. Matthew Engebretson, and we will be playing some sick new summer infused jams.
